Below is an experiment in painting a background entirely in gouache paint before scanning it into the computer and animating ontop. I’m no character animator so excuse the janky animation but it was just a proof of concept for myself!

Ink self portrait experiment
A quick evening test to see how fast I could get something half decent out. Really liking the focus pull and the subtle flower movements (done quick with a simple shear in AE) not such a fan of the puppet tool bird, but not bad for something quick and dirty!
